Jillian Michaels Reveals Worst Three Foods for Metabolism
Published
6 years agoon
Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels is all about offering tips and tricks to keep your body healthy and strong on her fitness app My Fitness, and that includes what and what not to eat.
According to Well+Good, Michaels reveals three food items that are the worst for our metabolism and if you’re trying to lose weight it’s important to keep your metabolism revved up.
While foods rich in fiber and iodine can be great for amping up our metabolism, Michaels suggests steering clear or limiting the following three foods:
Sugar
According to Well+Good eating sugar equals a sluggish metabolism. Why? Michaels says our blood sugar spikes after enjoying a sugary treat, which causes our cortisol and insulin hormone levels to increase. That increase can lead to a metabolic disruption if left unchecked.
“Hormones work in symphony, and there are tons of them,” Michaels reveals. “So, ultimately, when we’re looking at metabolism, we want to make sure we have the right hormones working for us, instead of against us.”
Processed Grains
Put down that slice of white bread and replace with a slice of whole wheat if you want to keep that metabolism revved up. Refined grains such as white rice, processed bread, and unfortunately white pasta have a similar effect on the body as sugar, according to Well+Good, which causes our insulin levels to skyrocket. Michaels suggests reaching for whole, unprocessed grains for a carb fix.View this post on InstagramA post shared by Keto Boy 🇮🇳 (@pranavjandial) on
Processed Soy
According to Well+Good, Michaels says processed soy is very toxic to our thyroid. Although scientists haven’t reached a conclusive consensus on this, Well+Good report several studies have indicated excessive soy consumption can have a negative impact on the thyroid – the gland in the neck responsible for metabolic operations. Michael’s suggest sticking to organic and fermented soy since conventionally grown soy is often treated with pesticides, which have also been linked to thyroid issues.View this post on InstagramMy lunch 🥗 #pokebowl #vegan #organicsoy #yummy
