Watching Ree Drummond’s children grow up was as much a part of her hit Food Network series The Pioneer Woman as it was her delicious recipes, but there’s one member of the family we haven’t been introduced to – yet!
In her upcoming book of essays, Frontier Follies, People reports the culinary star reveals she has a foster son who has been living with the family on the ranch for the past year and a half.

“I haven’t written or spoken publicly about him much, because for one thing, the state agency that handles fostering has strict rules against posting about foster children on social media, which I get,” Ree writes. “Also, I’ve never wanted to subject Jamar to more attention than he wanted or needed before he had a chance to settle in and get his bearings in our home.”
According to People, now Jamar is eighteen the state rules no longer apply, which is a good thing as Ree revealed her foster son is “tired of feeling like we’re trying to hide him from the world.”
People reports fostering wasn’t something Ree and her husband Ladd had considered until meeting Lamar during a high school football practice in their hometown of Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
“Jamar’s circumstances presented themselves to us in a way we couldn’t ignore,” Ree writes in Frontier Follies.
“I’m proud of the kid, and I can’t wait to see where life takes him,” Ree shared of her foster son. “I’ll be in the stands cheering him on.”
