Despite the challenges facing the brick and mortar retail sector, Amazon has announced they plan to open up a clothing store in a Southern California mall later this year.
According to the Associated Press, the store will open up at Americana at Brand mall in Glendale, California and will sell women’s and men’s clothing along with shoes and accessories. Prices will range from $10 to $400.
As shoppers peruse the approximate 30,000 square foot retail space, personalized recommendations will be pushed to their phones as they scan item QR codes via the Amazon Shopping app. They can then add these items directly to a fitting room, or straight to the checkout counter if they don’t need to try the item on. A touchscreen in each fitting room will allow shoppers to request other items
The Associated Press reports the store will offer more than double the amount of items regular stores offer by featuring one of each style on display while keeping the rest in the back room. Styles will be chosen by Amazon curators.
“Amazon Style completely reimagines what’s possible in the fitting room, turning it into a personalized space where customers can continue to shop a seemingly endless closet of great styles,” Simoina Vasen, managing director of Amazon Style, said in a blog post reported by the AP.
