American Idol is set to return to television. ABC network have revived with musical reality show, revealing the news on Tuesday’s Good Morning America.
The original American Idol ran for 15 seasons starting 2002 on FOX and launched the careers of Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks among others. It also helped launch original host, Ryan Seacrest, into the limelight.Source: Fox/American Idol
Disney/ABC Group president Ben Sherwood made the announcement, saying, “America, get ready for the return of a bigger, bolder and better-than-ever ‘Idol’.”
American Idol is a pop culture staple that left the air too soon,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement. “ABC is the right home to reignite the fan base. We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams.”
No news yet as to whether Seacrest, who just signed on to permanently join Kelly Ripa on Live with Kelly and Ryan will have time in his busy schedule to return as American Idol host.
