Chris Rock will make his return to the Oscar stage, serving as host of the 88th Academy Awards, confirmed on Wednesday by the show’s producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin.
The comedian hosted the award show in 2005, and the show’s producers hope that his hosting gig this year will increase ratings. According to Variety, last year’s show pulled in the lowest ratings in six years with Neil Patrick Harris serving as host. This year, Hill and Hudlin hope to give the show a fresh look. Producers told Variety, “Chris Rock is truly the MVP of the entertainment industry. Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian – he’s done it all. He’s going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!”
The funny man shares his enthusiasm for his return to the Oscars stage. “I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars. It’s great to be back.”
The Oscars will be held on Feb. 28, 2016.
