Heidi Klum refutes inaccurate “crap” narrative about her eating habits.
Taking to her Instagram Story on Tuesday, August 22, Heidi Klum, aged 50, confronted the misleading headlines surrounding her alleged strict diet. She shared screenshots of articles published earlier that day and made it clear that the notion of her consuming a mere 900 calories a day is far from accurate.
“One, I want to say, I don’t think I’ve ever had to count my calories in my life, [so] don’t believe everything that you read. … I don’t count my calories,” Klum said.
“I love that she is adamant that she doesn’t diet or count calories. She strives to live a healthy lifestyle. Calorie counting and ‘take in less than we burn’ is antiquated and not only leads to health issues,” said Carrie Lupoli, certified health and nutrition coach and founder of Disruptive Nutrition.
“We think that our desire to get to an optimal weight will get us to our optimal health but instead it’s actually working toward optimal health that will lead us to our body’s optimal weight (and it may not be what we think it should be!). Keeping the conversation always on weight leads us to inappropriate and damaging behaviors,” Lupoli said.
Klum proceeded to provide an explanation for her decision to reveal her weight during a recent Instagram Story Q&A session for her fans. “Someone asked me how much I weigh, and I got on the scale and showed how much I weighed,” she continued. “I don’t know, people just put things together and just write a bunch of crap. … It’s really sad.”
“Body shaming happens to women of all sizes and has to stop. Her weight is no one’s business and we feel a right to ask, judge and respond to what women’s bodies look like and judge what they are eating,” Lupoli said.
Klum’s reply followed closely after a report, detailing that she conducted an Instagram Q&A session on Sunday, August 20. During this session, she stepped onto a scale to reveal her weight, approximately 138 pounds. In response to queries about her fitness routine, Klum apparently mentioned that her regular breakfast consists of three poached eggs prepared in warm chicken broth, constituting a portion of her daily caloric intake.
“With a high percentage of women fearing to even stand on the scale, let alone in public, I love that Heidi shows her confidence with doing this! She is a 50-year-old hardworking mom of four, and standing at 5 feet, 9 inches. I wish that more women portrayed this confidence because she is truly confident in her own skin which is beautiful,” said celebrity trainer and consultant Jill Charton.

Previously, Klum has stated that she doesn’t frequently adhere to a particular diet plan. In a 2018 interview with Entertainment Tonight, she remarked, “I start with great smoothies in the morning. I also have four children, so we cook a lot. I don’t really eat out a lot. I think when you eat out a lot or order food in a lot it gets a little tricky because you don’t know what people are putting in there.”
Klum is a mother to her children Leni, 19, Henry, 17, Johan, 16, and Lou, 13, whom she shares with her former husband Seal. The ex-couple was married from 2005 to 2014. Subsequently, Klum found love again with her current husband, Tom Kaulitz, and they tied the knot in 2019.
In addition to discussing her wellness routine in the recent Q&A session, Klum openly talked about her relationship with Kaulitz and the 16-year age difference between them. (Tom Kaulitz, the musician from Tokio Hotel, is 33 years old.)
“I have trained women for the last 13 years, and when I read that Heidi doesn’t follow a diet plan, I wish everyone had this mindset with nutrition! Once we start restricting ourselves from diverse foods, we can lose out on a variety of nutrients from other sources of food,” Charton said.
“Heidi stated that she cooks a lot at home with her four kids. Cooking at home with your kids is a much healthier option because you know how the food is being prepared (what oils are being used, what type of meat or fish, what herbs or spices, etc.),” Charton said. “It also brings the family together and sets up your kids for a healthier lifestyle down the road because you’re teaching them how to eat healthy vs. choosing the fast food option.”
