Not only are avocados packed full of healthy fats, tons of vitamins and fiber, a new study has found eating the delicious food can also improve gut health.
Eat This, Not That! reports the study, published in the
Journal of Nutrition, found that the microbiomes of people who ate avocado on a daily basis had more helpful microbes than their non-avocado-eating counterparts, which aids in healthy digestion.
“Avocados are full of nutrients, including fiber and healthy fats that help support gut health by feeding your microbiota,” explains Hannah Holscher, the study’s senior author and assistant professor of nutrition in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois, in a statement reported by
Eat This, Not That!.
Not only did the study find eating avocados aids in healthy digestion and better gut health, but daily avocado consumption also helped the participants absorb less fat from the food they ate.
