Japanese Princess to Give up Royal Title in the Name of Love

Reading like the plot from a romance movie, Japan’s Princess Mako of Akishino is giving up her royal title in order to marry the love of her life.
Princess Mako met her true love during college, but because he is considered a commoner the princess will have to forego her royal title once she marries him – quite unlike Britain’s Prince William who was allowed to keep his title after marrying commoner Kate!
Japan’s imperial law states that a princess must leave the family if she marries a commoner. Her future spouse, Kei Komuro, is a graduate student who works at a law firm. The 25-year-old couple met when they attended the International Christian University in Tokyo.
