Neil Diamond has announced he will no longer tour, following a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease.
The Sweet Caroline singer, who turns 77 this month, is currently touring the globe for his 50th Anniversary tour, but has been forced to cancel his March concert dates in Australia and New Zealand per advice from his doctors.
Diamond announced the news on his website, telling fans, “It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce my retirement from concert touring. I have been so honored to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years. My sincerest apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and were planning to come to the upcoming shows.”
And while his Parkinson’s diagnosis will make it harder for Neil to tour he revealed he still plans to write and record for “a long time to come.” Stars, including Barry Manilow and Nancy Sinatra tweeted their support for Diamond, with Manilow tweeting, “Fight on from another Brooklyn boy!”
