Janelle Monáe has come out in an interview with
Rolling Stone, telling the music mag she identifies with being “pansexual.”
In the past Janelle has been quick to divert questions regarding her sexuality, quipping “I only date Androids” when previously asked, but the singer who is busy promoting her new album
Dirty Computer has finally decided to open up about her private life.
“Being a queer woman in America,” Janelle told
Rolling Stone, “someone who has been in relationships with both men and women – I consider myself to be a free mother – -.”
Janelle told the mag she initially identified as being bisexual, but after learning more about pansexuality she felt it applied to her.
When it comes to her new album, the 32-year-old Cover Girl model told
Rolling Stone she hopes it encourages others to be proud, saying, “I want young girls, young boys, nonbinary, gay, straight, queer people who are having a hard time dealing with their sexuality, dealing with feeling ostracized or bullied for just being their unique selves, to know that I see you. This album is for you. Be proud.”
