During an emotional chat with Miley Cyrus on Miley’s new Instagram Live show
Bright Minded, Selena Gomez revealed she has bipolar.
The 27-year-old told Cyrus she realized she was bipolar during a recent visit to Boston’s McLean Hospital.
“I discussed that after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar and so when I go to know more information, it actually helps me,” she said. “It doesn’t scare me once I know it. I think people get scared of that, right?”
“I wanted to know everything about it. And it took the fear away,” Gomez shared of wanting to understand more about her diagnosis. “When I was younger, I was scared of thunderstorms. And my mom bought me all these different books on thunderstorms so she’s like, ‘The more that you educate yourself on this, the more that you’re not going to be afraid.’ And it completely worked.”
The pair also talked about how they’re coping during these uncertain times due to the coronavirus, with Gomez sharing she has been writing a lot.
“I’ve been writing a lot. I think that that’s been helping me process what’s been going on,” Gomez revealed. “There are moments where I just have to center myself and let the thoughts come in. Sometimes I’ll write them down, and then completely just sit with, ‘What is it? What is the root of this? Why can I get to the bottom of this?’ And it really helps me.”
