After Target announced earlier this year that they would be closed on Thanksgiving Day to allow their employees to enjoy the holiday with loved ones, the company just revealed they are making the decision permanent.
Target employees found out they will never again have to leave the Thanksgiving table early to come into work after receiving a note from CEO Brian Cornell.
“What started as a temporary measure driven by the pandemic is now our new standard,” the
Associated Press report Cornell’s note as saying. “One that recognizes our ability to deliver on our guests’ holiday wishes both within and well beyond store hours.”
“You don’t have to wonder whether this is the last Thanksgiving you’ll spend with family and friends for a while, because Thanksgiving store hours are one thing we won’t ‘get back to’ when the pandemic finally subsides,” Cornell told employees.
According to the
Associated Press, Target began opening on Thanksgiving Day a decade ago in order to compete with other retailers. They decided to stay closed on Thanksgiving Day of 2020 due to COVID-19.
