Travis Barker is opening up about his hospitalization earlier this week after suffering “life-threatening” pancreatitis.
The Blink-182 drummer took to Instagram to update fans on his health, revealing he is “currently much better.”
“I went in for an endoscopy Monday feeling great,” Barker told fans via Instagram Story. “But after dinner, I developed excruciating pain and have been hospitalized ever since.”
“During the endoscopy, I had a very small polyp removed right in a very sensitive area, usually handled by specialists, which unfortunately damaged a critical pancreatic drainage tube. This resulted in severe life-threatening pancreatitis,” Barker told his 7.5 million Instagram followers.
“I am so grateful that with intensive treatment, I am currently much better.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, pancreatitis occurs when digestive enzymes become activated while still in the pancreas, irritating the cells of the pancreas and causing inflammation.
