It’s important to be aware of what foods you are are putting into your body when you are pregnant. Certain items can put you and your baby at risk for bacteria and foodborne illness. Take a look at the list below of foods to avoid when you’re expecting.
Raw or Under-Cooked Seafood

Avoid sushi and under-cooked seafood for risk of bacteria, viruses and foodborne illness.
Certain Types of Fish

Certain fish such as swordfish, tilefish, king mackerel and shark should be avoided because it contains high levels of mercury. Be sure to test the temperature of your fish to make sure it is fully cooked to avoid any potential health risks.
Lunch Meat

Avoid the deli aisle at the grocery store for lunch meats can contain listeria, a bacteria that cause serious health issues to your baby.
Hot Dogs

When at your neighborhood barbecue, avoid hot dogs or any rare meat. Hot dogs will also put you at risk for listeria.
Unpasteurized Dairy Products

Steer clear of any dairy products containing unpasteurized milk. Items such as Brie, feta, Camembert, Roquefort, blue-cheese or any soft cheeses should be avoided.

If you’re whipping up your favorite batch of cookies, avoid licking the spoon. Raw cookie dough can contain harmful bacteria from raw, uncooked eggs. Make sure your batch of sweet treats fully cooks through.
