A new forecast from Realtor.com is predicting where the top housing markets will be for 2022 – and thanks to continued remote work due to the pandemic it likely won’t be some of the nation’s biggest cities.
According to
CBS News, Realtor.com formulated its list based on recent home sales, as well as economic trends such as employment rates and household growth.
“Our top housing markets are attracting remote-minded workers, possibly interested in snagging a big-city salary while still enjoying the quality of life that these generally smaller areas afford,” Danielle Hale, Realtor.com’s chief economist revealed in the findings.
“2021 was an ultracompetitive year for the real estate market, especially for smaller secondary tech markets,” Hale told
CBS. “They benefited from knowledge workers being freed up from going into the office every day.”
“People are embracing the flexibility of the workplace and moving into areas that are more affordable,” Hale shared, adding most of the top 10 housing markets for 2022 have a “small-town quality of life, yet they still have thriving local economies.”
According to
CBS News, Realtor.com predicts the following ten cities will be the top markets for 2022:
1. Salt Lake City, Utah
2. Boise City, Idaho
3. Spokane – Spokane Valley, Washington
4. Indianapolis – Carmel – Anderson, Indiana
5. Columbus, Ohio
6. Providence – Warwick, Rhode Island – Massachusetts
7. Greenville – Anderson – Mauldin, South Carolina
8. Seattle – Tacoma – Bellevue, Washington
9. Worcester, Massachusetts – Connecticut
