Bob Barker, the beloved television personality, passed away on Saturday, August 26, at the age of 99.
His publicist, Roger Neal, confirmed the news, noting that Barker died of natural causes at his home.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker, has left us,” Neal said in a statement on Saturday.
Nancy Burnet, Barker’s longtime friend who has overseen his care, said in a statement, “The journey I undertook with Barker, my dearest friend, remains a testament to our unwavering commitment to shed light on the harsh realities animals face in the entertainment sphere. Together, we labored to elevate the conditions of exploited animals, not only within the United States but on a global scale. Our camaraderie flourished over these four decades, and his absence will be deeply felt.”
Barker etched his name into history as the inaugural host of the iconic show “The Price Is Right,” a milestone achievement in television game shows, boasting the record for the longest uninterrupted run in the United States.
“The world lost a TV icon today. He may be gone, but his legacy will live on. I’d like to think that somewhere in heaven, the showcase showdown is just getting started,” said pop culture expert Brian Balthazar.
Barker is survived by half-brother Kent Valandra and nephews Robert Valandra and Chip Valandra as well as niece Vickie Valandra Kelly.
