Ben & Jerry’s Saying Farewell to Single Use Plastics

Expect to start enjoying your favorite Ben & Jerry’s ice cream with a wooden spoon this year as the company announces their plans to phase out single-use plastic straws and spoons.
In an effort to reduce their environmental footprint, the ice-cream company says it will stop handing out plastic straws and spoons in more than 600 of their stores worldwide. According to CNN, the company predicts the move could eliminate 300 million spoons and 2.5 million straws entering landfills this year. Ben & Jerry’s hope to fully transition to paper straws and wooden spoons by April 9th, just in time for their popular Free Cone Day, according to CNN.
The company also announced plans to shift away from plastic lids, plastic-lined cups, and clear plastic cups by 2020.
