Chris Rock has requested fans take a break from using their cell phone during his concert at the 02 Arena in London. The comedian has urged fans to “take one night off from being the paparazzo of your own life” and just enjoy the show without filming it, according to Sky News.
Rock has banned all mobile phones and smart watches from his UK Total Blackout tour, with hopes that measure will prevent people from filming his shows and then posting the footage online.
According to Sky News, Rock said he was fed up with fans putting clips of his show on social media instead of just enjoying it, adding, “There is also the added problem for comedians who spend months polishing their performances to a high state of hilarity only to have their punchlines shared in advance by illegal recordings of their show.” Audience members at Rock’s O2 Arena will have their phones locked in free Yondr pouches upon entering the venue. The pouches are kept with the fans for the duration of the show and unlocked upon exiting the venue. For audience members who really need to access their phones, there will be a special area where the pouches are opened by staff.
