As the coronavirus pandemic sweeps around the world, Elton John is making sure AIDS and HIV patients can still access the medical care vital to their survival during this time by launching a $1 million COVID-19 emergency fund.
The singer made the announcement during an interview with Miley Cyrus on her new Instagram Live talk show Bright Minded, revealing he has never seen the devastation the coronavirus pandemic has caused and is concerned that AIDS patients in particular may be struggling to receive treatment as health care workers fight COVID-19 on the front lines.
Elton John launched the Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992 and told Cyrus his foundation will spend the next three months working to make sure those with AIDS and HIV are still able to receive the medicines and treatment they need.
“Today, I’m proud to announce that my Foundation @EJAF is launching a $1million COVID-19 Emergency Fund to make sure that our frontline partners can respond to the effects of COVID-19 on HIV care for the most marginalised communities around the world,” Elton announced on Instagram. “Now and always, I’m committed to not leave anyone affected by HIV behind.”
