Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, hand sanitizer has become a staple in homes across the country. However, the FDA has issued a warning pertaining to one hand sanitizer manufacturer.
CNN reports the US Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers who may have hand sanitizer products manufactured by Eskbiochem SA to stop using them. Why? The products may contain the potential presence of a toxic chemical.
In samples of CleanCare No Germ and Lavar Gel, the FDA discovered the substance methanol, which can be toxic when absorbed through the skin or ingested.
According to CNN, the FDA asked Eskbiochem SA to remove its hand sanitizer products from shelves on June 17 but has yet to receive a response from the Mexico-based company.
The FDA has issued a warning for the following hand sanitizer products and recommends the products be disposed of in “appropriate hazardous waste containers.”
