Heinz has partnered with Mattel to launch the limited-edition Heinz Classic Barbiecue Sauce in honor of the toy brand’s 65th anniversary, but it’s only available in the U.K. and Spain.
The sauce is a pink, vegan mayo mixed with BBQ sauce, and comes in a Barbie-pink bottle with an image of the iconic doll on the label. The sauce gets its pink color from beetroot extract, and is perfect for drizzling on salads or burgers.
Heinz Classic Barbiecue Sauce is launching after strong fan reaction to a social media post from Heinz U.K. last year, which put a bottle of Heinz Tomato Kenchup and a then-fictional bottle of Heinz Barbiecue Sauce side by side.
The companies said the dreamy sauce shows that Barbie dreams really do come true.
“Barbie well and truly won the hearts of Brits all over again last year, and after seeing the reaction this sauce brought to our fans on social media, we knew we had to make it a reality. Were always looking for ways to innovate and give our fans what they want, and were thrilled to be able to bring this iconic partnership with Mattel to life, Thiago Rapp, Director of Taste Elevation at Heinz, said in a statement.
This partnership with Heinz opens up another avenue for Barbie fans to bring home the world of Barbie. Last summer, we worked quickly with Heinz to bring to life the prospect of a Heinz Classic Barbiecue Sauce in digital form, so its now so exciting to be able to put the physical product into our kitchen cupboards, said Ruth Henriquez, Head of Consumer Products, Publishing, and LBE Mattel EMEA. This collaboration embodies the spirit of innovation and fun that both Mattel and Heinz are known for, and we cant wait for fans to enjoy this delicious and unique product
Fans hoping to be among the first to get the limited-edition sauce can try to snag one of the first 5,000 bottles at heinztohome.co.uk starting on April 15. A limited run of the Heinz Classic Barbiecue Sauce will be available in Tesco stores across the U.K. beginning on April 17, followed by Ocado and other retailers from May.
