Dressed in a custom Atelier Versace gown made entirely of chain metal, Michelle Obama looked stunning in the rose gold Donatella Versace number.
The use of an Italian designer, was a diplomatic nod to the state dinner guests of the evening, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini.

Donatella Versace, through her spokesperson, revealed, “I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to dress the first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. Thank you Michelle for all the things you did for America and for the rest of the world, for the women in the U.S and the rest of the world.”
This is the first time Michelle Obama has worn Versace. According to her wardrobe advisor, Meredith Koop, in an interview with
Harper’s Bazaar, the First Lady always tries to pay “tribute to a country and their cultural norms.”
