A new study has found running for just 50 minutes each week can extend your life.
The research, which was published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, found running can help reduce the risk of early death from cancer and cardiovascular-related disease.
According to Runner’s World, researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 14 studies, with a participant pool of 232,149 people, to find whether running makes a difference for heart health and cancer prevention.
Runner’s World reports the meta-analysis found that those who ran at least once a week had a 27-percent lower risk of all-cause mortality, 30-percent lower risk of cardiovascular-related death, and 23-percent lower risk of cancer mortality.
Researchers found that just 50 minutes a week of running proved beneficial – and that time could either be achieved in one day, or split up into smaller run times over several days. Runner’s World reports pace didn’t make a difference and longer runs didn’t translate to even lower risks.
