Following a racist tweet which led to the cancellation of her show, Roseanne Barr has reportedly agreed in principle to step away from the show in order to allow a spin-off that will focus on the character of Darlene, played by Sara Gilbert.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a spinoff of Roseanne is in the works with ABC, with the network and the show’s producer, Carsey-Werner, insisting “that Barr not participate financially, or creatively in the proposed spinoff.”
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting other Roseanne cast-members, including John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf, are tentatively on board, together with the show’s writer-producers.
Sources have cautioned the spinoff is in the early days of negotiations telling The Hollywood Reporter, “the precarious nature of the negotiations and Barr’s volatile disposition could change the situation before a deal is closed.”
