As students return to the classroom for the new school year, one state is requiring flu shots.
According to news, Massachusetts is requiring nearly all students to get a flu vaccine in order to attend schools. Officials hope the measure will reduce illnesses during the coronavirus pandemic and help relieve strain on the healthcare system.
“The new vaccine requirement is an important step to reduce flu-related illness and the overall impact of respiratory illness during the COVID-19 pandemic,” officials said in a statement reported by CBS.
All children aged six months or older attending daycare, preschool, Kindergarten, K-12 and colleges and universities in the state are required to get a flu shot. The state will allow exemptions for religious or medical reasons and homeschooled children also be exempt.
