Valerie Bertinelli has posted a touching tribute to her ex-husband, Eddie Van Halen, after he passed away following a long battle with cancer.
Van Halen had been fighting cancer on and off for the last twenty years, finally succumbing to the disease on Tuesday at the age of 65.
Bertinelli, who was married to Van Halen from 1981 until 2007, took to Instagram to express her grief with fans, saying of her ex, “I will see you in our next life my love.”
“40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you,” Bertinelli captioned a black and white throwback picture of the couple holding their son, Wolfie. “You gave me the one true light of my life, our son, Wolfgang.”
“Through all your challenging treatments for lung cancer, you kept your gorgeous spirit and that impish grin,” Bertinelli shared. “I’m so grateful Wolfie and I were able to hold you in your last moments. I will see you in our next life my love.”
Their son, Wolfgang Van Halen, broke the sad news of his father’s passing on Instagram, sharing, “I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning.”
“He was the best father I could ever ask for,” Wolfie, who played alongside his father in Van Halen, told fans. “Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop.”
